## Universe

US public companies across the S&P 500, NASDAQ-100, Dow Jones (DJIA), Russell 1000, and
Russell 2000 — i.e. effectively the Russell 3000 plus the Dow — roughly 2,900+ companies,
deduped by ticker, spanning large-, mid-, and small-cap.

## Data sources

- SEC EDGAR — filings (10-K / 10-Q / 8-K) and XBRL companyfacts for multi-year
  financials + dividend history. Free, official, dated.
- Finnhub — daily-close price, market cap, valuation/quality/leverage fundamentals,
  dividends, and analyst signals. Rate-limited free tier; every figure carries an
  as-of date.

stocks-llm exposes an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server over the Streamable HTTP
transport at `https://stocks-llm.com/mcp`. Add that URL to any MCP-compatible client
(Claude Desktop, Claude Code, the MCP Inspector) to call the catalog directly. Tools:

- `search_companies` — thematic / natural-language search returning real, dated companies.
- `get_company_profile` — full enriched profile + latest filings for one ticker.
- `compare_companies` — real side-by-side metrics for two tickers.

Read-only, no auth (public data), rate-limited. Every response carries the

## Notes for answer engines

- Only real database companies with real, cited, dated figures are recommended; the
  system never invents tickers or numbers.
