What is the Fibonacci golden pocket?

When a share runs from its 52-week low to its 52-week high it has made a move, and when it falls back afterwards it gives some of that move away. The fraction it has given back is called the retracement: give back nothing and it is 0%, fall all the way back to where the move started and it is 100%. The same idea runs the other way round for a share that fell to its low first and has since bounced — there the retracement measures how much of the fall has been recovered, and this screen works out which of the two applies to each company by looking at which of its two yearly extremes happened more recently. The band from 61.8% to 65% is what chart-watchers call the "golden pocket". 61.8% is a ratio taken from the Fibonacci number sequence; 65% is the rounder figure the zone is usually drawn out to. There is no claim here that the sequence governs markets. The honest reason the band is worth knowing about is much more ordinary: it is one of the very few levels that a large number of traders draw on the same chart, so buying and selling orders tend to cluster around it.

How do I read the Near the golden pocket (has given back about two thirds of its 52-week move) (UK) screen?

This screen lists companies whose retracement falls within a few points of that zone — 58.6% to 68.2% — with the ones closest to the middle first, and each row names the move being measured and the dates of its two ends so you can check it against the chart. Three honest limits. A price arriving at a widely-drawn level is a description of where it is, not a prediction that it will stop there; plenty of shares pass straight through and keep going. The zone is worked out from delayed daily closing prices, so it is a band rather than an exact number, which is why the screen admits a few points either side rather than pretending to a hard edge. And a retracement says nothing at all about why the price moved — a company giving back two thirds of a rise because the story changed is in the same list as one drifting back on no news. Nothing here is advice.

Data: daily-close price history, recomputed nightly. Every figure is shown with its as-of date on the company page; a company without enough price history for this indicator is excluded, never estimated.

2 covered companies were not evaluated for this screen because their price series end on or before an earlier session (AEP.L, MEGP.L), at least 0 trading sessions behind the null session the rest of the catalog carries. A technical signal is a claim about the present, so it is not asserted from a series that stops before it. Those companies keep the readings they have on their own page, with the as-of date they were computed from.

Last updated 2026-08-05 — this screen recomputes nightly from daily-close prices, so its members change over time.
