What is a hammer candle?
A hammer is a session with a long lower wick, a small body sitting near the top of the range, and almost no upper wick: the stock was sold down hard during the day and then bought back to close near where it opened. This screen requires the lower wick to be at least twice the body and to cover at least 55% of the whole session range, with an upper wick of no more than 15% — and, crucially, it requires the stock to be trading below where it closed five sessions earlier.
How do I read the Printed a hammer candle after a decline (UK) screen?
That last requirement is why the count here is smaller than a shape-only scan would give (measured on the live catalog: 172 companies matched the shape, 56 matched it after a decline). The identical candle appearing after a RISE is called a hanging man and is read the opposite way, so listing the shape without the context would put the wrong name on two thirds of the matches. This screen describes a session that has already closed; a hammer is not a prediction that the low holds.
