OpenAI reports early efficiency results for its Jalapeño inference chip
OpenAI said Jalapeño delivered 1.5–1.9 times more AI work per watt and 1.7–3.6 times lower end-to-end latency than comparison systems across GPT-OSS 120B, DeepSeek R1, and Kimi K2.5 1T. The 700-watt accelerator reportedly used no more than 550 watts in the tested workloads, with initial deployment planned by the end of 2026.
**Why it matters:** OpenAI’s move into custom inference hardware could reduce serving costs and create a potential long-term threat to incumbent accelerator suppliers.
Synopsys raises full-year guidance after strong third-quarter results
Synopsys reported third-quarter fiscal 2026 revenue of $2.477 billion, GAAP diluted EPS of $2.84, and non-GAAP diluted EPS of $3.91. The company raised its full-year revenue outlook to a midpoint of $9.715 billion and full-year non-GAAP EPS guidance to a midpoint of $15.07.
**Why it matters:** Strong EDA demand tied to AI and silicon complexity supports Synopsys’s outlook and provides a positive read-through for semiconductor design spending.
Focus Graphite and C4V to evaluate North American graphite-to-anode platform
Focus Graphite and U.S. battery-technology company C4V signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding to evaluate graphite concentrate from Focus’s Lac Knife project in Quebec using C4V’s Green Anode Technology. Focus said pilot-scale processing had produced concentrate grading up to 98.7% carbon through mechanical processing without chemical or thermal purification.
**Why it matters:** A successful qualification program could support a more domestic battery-anode supply chain and reduce reliance on overseas graphite processing.
AWS and NVIDIA plan to deploy 2 million additional GPUs
AWS and NVIDIA announced plans to deploy 2 million additional NVIDIA GPUs across AWS’s global infrastructure. The companies also said they will expand cooperation across NVIDIA Vera CPUs, networking, open models, AI factories, data processing, and robotics.
**Why it matters:** The planned deployment reinforces the scale of hyperscaler AI infrastructure demand and supports revenue opportunities across GPUs, networking, cloud instances, and data-center equipment.
U.S. natural-gas project pipeline doubles as developers target AI data centers
Global Energy Monitor data cited by Axios showed that the amount of U.S. natural-gas generation capacity in the development pipeline doubled during the first half of 2026. The build-out is being driven partly by proposed AI data centers, although many projects remain speculative.
**Why it matters:** AI data-center growth is increasing potential demand for gas generation, transmission, and grid equipment while also raising permitting, emissions, and project-execution risks.
Second-quarter GDP remains at a 1.5% growth rate
The BEA’s second estimate showed real GDP grew at a 1.5% annual rate in the second quarter, unchanged from the advance estimate. Real final sales to private domestic purchasers were revised up to 4.2%, while real GDI increased 2.2%; the GDP price index rose 5.8%.
**Why it matters:** The combination of modest headline growth and stronger private domestic demand suggests the economy is slowing unevenly rather than entering an outright contraction.
July PCE inflation remains elevated
The July PCE price index increased 0.2% from June and 3.7% from a year earlier. Core PCE also rose 0.2% month over month and 3.3% year over year, while real PCE was essentially unchanged.
**Why it matters:** Persistent inflation alongside slower growth complicates the Federal Reserve’s policy path and could keep rate-sensitive technology and growth stocks volatile.
Ethereum developers propose a path toward quantum-resistant staking
Ethereum researchers proposed rebuilding the validator deposit contract to support multiple cryptographic systems and eventually stop accepting deposits secured by current BLS signatures. CoinDesk reported that approximately 42.4 million ETH, worth about $104 billion at the time of publication, was staked under the existing format.
**Why it matters:** The proposal highlights a long-term security risk for Ethereum staking and could accelerate development of post-quantum cryptography across blockchain infrastructure.

NVIDIA (NVDA) reports record fiscal second-quarter revenue and raises near-term outlook
NVIDIA reported fiscal second-quarter revenue of $96.2 billion, up 106% year over year, including $89.0 billion of data-center revenue. GAAP diluted EPS was $2.46 and non-GAAP diluted EPS was $2.22; the company guided to approximately $108 billion of revenue for the following quarter.
**Why it matters:** The results confirm that AI infrastructure demand remains exceptionally strong and raise the earnings bar for the broader semiconductor and data-center supply chain.
Salesforce (CRM) posts record fiscal second-quarter results and raises revenue guidance
Salesforce reported fiscal second-quarter revenue of $11.3 billion, subscription and support revenue of $10.8 billion, GAAP diluted EPS of $4.29, and non-GAAP diluted EPS of $5.90. Current remaining performance obligations rose 14% year over year to $33.5 billion, and full-year revenue guidance was raised to $46.1 billion–$46.4 billion.
**Why it matters:** Accelerating subscription commitments and higher guidance suggest enterprise AI monetization is beginning to reinforce Salesforce’s core software growth.
CrowdStrike (CRWD) reports 26% revenue growth and raises ARR outlook
CrowdStrike reported fiscal second-quarter revenue of $1.47 billion, up 26% year over year, including $1.40 billion of subscription revenue. Net new ARR reached $333 million, up 51% year over year, and the company guided to full-year revenue of $5.9911 billion–$6.0111 billion and non-GAAP EPS of $1.25–$1.26.
**Why it matters:** Higher ARR growth and stronger full-year guidance indicate continued demand for consolidated cybersecurity platforms as enterprises secure AI workloads and cloud environments.
