Oct 20, 2026
In 1975 a Kodak engineer built the first digital camera, IEEE Spectrum reports. At its 1997 stock high Kodak's market value was about $31 billion. By 2006 more than half its revenue was digital, but its film group's sales fell 31% from 2005 to 2007, and after about $3.5 billion in net losses from 2008 to 2012 Kodak filed for bankruptcy protection in January 2012. Today it is a much smaller print and materials company worth about $874 million as of October 19, 2026, down about 97% from its 1997 high.
