NASDAQ-100

The NASDAQ-100 tracks about 100 of the largest non-financial companies listed on the Nasdaq exchange — heavily weighted toward technology.

The NASDAQ-100 is an index of roughly 100 of the largest non-financial companies listed on the Nasdaq Stock Market, weighted by market capitalization. Because Nasdaq is home to many of the biggest technology and internet companies, the index is dominated by tech and is often used as a proxy for the growth end of the market.

It excludes financial companies by design, which makes it more concentrated in technology, consumer, and healthcare names than the broader S&P 500. That concentration means it can be more volatile — rising faster in tech-led rallies and falling harder in tech-led selloffs.
