Who Earns the Most From Tourism? The Top 10 Countries in 2024, Compared With Their Economies

Foreign visitors spent $213.8 billion in the United States in 2024, about twice as much as in Spain, the runner-up, according to UN Tourism. The United Kingdom passed France for third, Türkiye's earnings rose 64% since 2019 to put it in the top ten, and Thailand fell from 4th to 11th (among countries reporting 2024 data). Measured against the economy the order flips: foreign visitor spending equals under 1% of US GDP, about 6% of Spain's, about 8% of Thailand's and about 13% of the UAE's.
